Remembrance Day 2021

This year for Remembrance Day, the Sudbury Catholic District School Board (SCDSB) paid respects to the extraordinary men and women whose services and sacrifices will never be forgotten through preparing a virtual Remembrance Day ceremony on Nov. 11th. The service, which used various forms of prayer, readings, music, and video, acknowledged the day’s importance and was a powerful social connection that included various schools participating in its production.

Following today’s events, the SCDSB has provided a clip of our opening video that was viewed at our virtual ceremony.

The following presentation highlights historic clippings and images of war veterans as well as beautiful artwork and visual displays that our school’s students and staff brought forward this year.

In addition to the video, please see the gallery of photos below. The gallery demonstrates wonderful examples of various activities and lessons school’s had participated in leading up to and on this important day of reflection.

Special thanks is given to the staff and students whose provided contributions enabled us to put together an amazing virtual service for our entire board. Thank you everyone!

Chairperson’s Award Recipients Selected

Award Winners, Joanne, Maria and Julie stand with Chairperson Michael Bellmore.

The Sudbury
Catholic District School Board is proud to announce the recipients of this
year’s Chairperson’s Award. All three individuals embody the Board’s vision as leaders
in learning and faith. They strive to support their school community in any way
they can and have each helped shape the unique culture present within their
schools.

Joanne Craig is
an Educational Assistant at St. Charles College. She has worked in the Care and
Development, Life Skills and the Student Success classrooms. Always willing to
help others in need, Joanne demonstrates genuine care and concern for all
students, providing a safe and accepting environment for all. In student
success, Joanne consistently finds a way to relate to students and ensures that
they have the right tools that they need to be successful.  Joanne fully embraces our Catholic values,
donating her own time and resources to help others in need. In addition to
giving back at St. Charles College, Joanne also manages the Victoria’s Quilt
group through the Holy Redeemer Parish with a goal to provide handmade quilts
for those living with cancer.

Julie Denomme is
a teacher at Bishop Alexander Carter Catholic Secondary Schools. Seen as a
leader within the school, Julie consistently finds ways to support her students
both in the classroom and outside the classroom. She encourages her students to
take risks in their learning and is eager to see their progress. As a program
leader, she has fully embraced the vertical classroom and team-teaching methods
and continually acts as a support system and sounding board. Julie embraces
faith in every aspect of her life, working diligently with the Chaplaincy Lead
and students to prepare music for school masses and is actively involved in the
parish.

Maria
Rothensee is the receptionist at the Catholic Learning Centre. Throughout her        12 years in this position, Maria has
consistently exemplified the Board’s values and vision. As the first ‘face’ and
‘voice’ that visitors see at the Catholic Learning Centre, Maria provides a
welcoming and warm environment for all. She is always willing to lend a helping
hand and is the first to assist in any function that occurs at the Board
office. She always treats each visitor as a special guest and guides them if
needed. Always the first to set out treats and decorations, Maria creates a
caring and genuine environment for all that enter through the doors of the
Catholic Learning Centre. She is a true blessing to our organization.

“I
am so very proud of the 2019 recipients of the Chairpersons award,” said
Michael Bellmore, Chair of the Board of Trustees. “Sudbury Catholic schools are
blessed to have caring, compassionate and committed staff who exemplify our
mission, vision and values.  These three
professionals have demonstrated through their individual actions an ability to
go above and beyond for their colleagues and the students at Sudbury Catholic
schools.”

This
year’s award winners will be honoured on June 5, 2019 during the Sudbury
Catholic District School Board’s annual Employment Recognition celebration.

2016 Chairperson Award winners announced

Michael Fabiilli, Kacey Boulrice and John Jamieson are the 2016 Chairperson’s Award Winners.

Every year the Sudbury Catholic District School Board Trustees select recipients for the Board’s prestigious Chairperson’s Award. These individuals embrace our Catholic values, exemplify the Board’s vision and mission, demonstrate initiative and ingenuity and contribute positively to the lives of students and staff. This year’s three recipients certainly exemplify all of these qualities.

John Jamieson is described as a very caring person who takes great pride in his work. John presents himself as a positive role model to both staff and students, his work ethic is inspirational and he constantly shows his capacity to treat all with respect and compassion. Currently John is employed as a Building Services Technician at St. Charles College where his positive presence enhances school life for all.

Kacey Boulrice is an Educational Assistant working at St. David’s Catholic School. Kacey is described as a dynamic staff member who contributes meaningfully to the lives of the people at St. David each and every day. She contributes in many ways including making breakfast for over 220 students each day and facilitates a peer support system for girls at recess. She is a problem solver and a true gift to the students and staff at St. David School.

Michael Fabiilli is a distinguished educator and coach. Currently on staff at St. Charles College he is described as a man of integrity and character who embodies the school motto of goodness, discipline and knowledge. Among his many contributions to school life, Mike has coached the Senior Football Team for his entire teaching career of twenty-nine years. His coaching goes well beyond the field as he guides his young athletes on how to be people of sound character. He is also described as an outstanding Math Teacher who has a soft spot for the most vulnerable of our students. He is indeed a strong role model whose gifts have helped to nurture the mind, body and spirit of the students who have had the opportunity to learn from “Coach Fabs” for the past 29 years.

This year’s award winners pictured with Chair Michael Bellmore will be honoured on May 25, 2016 during the Board’s retirement dinner and celebration of 25 year employees.
